With Awaken Faith Finding right People

By

We all reach a point in life—a faith-awakening moment—where we realize our path should be soulful and purposeful. We start to notice that our purpose, and the people we keep around us, need to align on the same page. In other words, we naturally connect with those who share our energy and give attention to the same goals.

I recall the wisdom of Imam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, who reflected on the hadith,

“Souls are like recruited troops; those that resemble each other come together, and those that differ from one another differ.”

He explains:

“When souls share similar virtues, they find comfort and companionship with one another; when they differ, they remain distant—even if they reside in the same place.”

(Paraphrased from Ibn Qayyim’s commentary in “Madarij as-Salikeen.”)

This resonates deeply with me. I’ve left behind certain attachments—material or possessions, because they are no longer part of which, where I’m headed. The people who remain in my life are those who align with my future. I’m far from perfect, but I pray to be worthy of a better station in Jannah, alongside those who are beloved in Allah’s sight.

Sometimes, being harsh on others reveals the harshness within ourselves, and hurtful words can echo far longer than we realize.

In a world rushing ahead, maybe we need a collective pause to revive our actions and reflect on whether we’re truly living—and treating each other—in a way that honors our faith and our purpose.

May these reflections encourage us to seek out companions who uplift us, to refine our intentions, and to strive for a life that draws us ever closer to what is best for us in this world and the next.
